The competition brief was to build a competition-standard category C indoor swimming pool for the sports of swimming, water diving and water polo. The new building was to be planned and designed in conjunction with the existing outdoor pool complex.
The design harmoniously integrates the new indoor swimming pool into the existing open spaces and creates a functional link between the two areas. The main entrance area of the swimming complex is the central point of contact for both indoor and outdoor pool users.
The layout of the aquatic areas is a key feature of the functional structure of the complex. The 25-meter pool is located in the immediate vicinity of the entrance area and provides direct access for spectators during competitions. A spectator stand and changing rooms for swimmers and bathers are located on the upper floor. A staircase leads from the central barefoot walkway on the gallery to the pool deck, which houses the competition pool, diving pool, learner pool and water play area. This allows for independent use of the different zones.
A generous lawn, partially shaded by trees, provides space for users to rest, play and gather, with volleyball and basketball courts to the south-west, table tennis and a children's playground to the north-east.
